3. Design

I have been involved in a number of design projects over the years, but never one that required everything to be built from a greenfield site in the middle of Argentina and with no existing infrastructure, where everything would need to be designed, engineered and built from scratch. The initial designs were good but with the help of CGI we were able quickly come up with a great view of what the lodge could look like and all the various components.

In the old days, one would have to rely on architects and very complicated drawings, now with digital rendering you can make the lodge look like the real thing although it is most likely sitting on somebody’s MacBook Pro somewhere in the world! It was really usefully process as we were able to make changes very quickly that the architect could reflect in the drawings but unfortunately it’s the stuff you don’t see that bites you in the arse. The final design looked amazing and I was super excited to see it completed as quickly as possible.

Looking back now, we got 95% of it right but 5% really cost me a lot in many different ways.
